To Kill a Mockingbird....Some quotes that are an inspiration...

“You never really understand a person until you consider things from his point of view... Until you climb inside of his skin and walk around in it.”

“I wanted you to see what real courage is, instead of getting the idea that courage is a man with a gun in his hand. It's when you know you're licked before you begin, but you begin anyway and see it through no matter what.

“People generally see what they look for, and hear what they listen for.”

“The one thing that doesn't abide by majority rule is a person's conscience.”

“Atticus, he was real nice."
"Most people are, Scout, when you finally see them.”

“People in their right minds never take pride in their talents.”

“You just hold your head high and keep those fists down. No matter what anybody says to you, don't you let 'em get your goat. Try fightin' with your head for a change.
-Atticus Finch”

“When a child asks you something, answer him, for goodness sake. But don't make a production of it. Children are children, but they can spot an evasion faster than adults, and evasion simply muddles 'em.”

“It’s never an insult to be called what somebody thinks is a bad name. It just shows you how poor that person is, it doesn’t hurt you.”

“We're paying the highest tribute you can pay a man. We trust him to do right. It's that simple.”

“Shoot all the blue jays you want, if you can hit 'em, but remember it's a sin to kill a mockingbird.”

“She seemed glad to see me when I appeared in the kitchen, and by watching her I began to think there was some skill involved in being a girl.”

“I think I'll be a clown when I get grown,' said Dill.
Jem and I stopped in our tracks.
Yes sir, a clown,' he said. 'There ain't one thing in this world I can do about folks except laugh, so I'm gonna join the circus and laugh my head off.'
You got it backwards, Dill,' said Jem. 'Clowns are sad, it's folks that laugh at them.'
Well I'm gonna be a new kind of clown. I'm gonna stand in the middle of the ring and laugh at the folks.”

“Atticus had said it was the polite thing to talk to people about what they were interested in, not about what you were interested in.”

“People don’t like to have somebody knowing more than they do. It aggravates them.”

You rarely win, but sometimes you do. Mrs. Dubose won, all ninety-eight pounds of her. According to her views, she died beholden to nothing and nobody. She was the bravest person I ever knew.”

“Finders were keepers unless title was proven.”

“I didn't know how you were going to do it, but from now on I'll never worry about what'll become of you, son, you'll always have an idea.”

Me too had the belated pleasure of reading this gem two months back... Such are the days when I do not resent being out of work... :P

These books they affect at such a level that seems invincible to pierce otherwise....

When I skimmed through this post and was trying to recall the book... The first thing I remembered was how they killed the rabid dog...

Such books speak about such subtleties that are drowned in the daily loud happenings, they talk to the heart.

So absofuckinglutely true...

You practically gave words to what I have been trying to explain to myself unsuccessfully about these classics...

Read on... Darling... No better companion than a good book at certain specific times of life... :)

Very recently Jiddu Krishnamurthy has held my interest strongly... Not able to make much progress with the book because it's not an easy read... Just read 2-3 chapters and at first I thought it isn't going to affect me but I can already see a few changes...

but why in hell Is that man so under-advertised and downplayed ...
